The Artist

Wenji Billow

Wenji Billow, 文姬 was born in 1973, Guangxi, China. In 1996, Wenji graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of Guangxi Normal University in Guilin, China, and she started to work in Yulin Shifan School (a local college) as an art teacher. In 1999 she got accepted for a Master’s program at the prestigious Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts from where she graduated in 2002. During these years, she had started to actively participate in a variety of exhibitions and art events in different places inside and outside of China. Wen Ji currently resides in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Wenji works with both Chinese ink and colour on rice paper as well oil on canvas. She has a strong sense of colour and is adept in combining both art forms with Western and Eastern styles. She has found her own unique way to convey her art languages and concept. In her art, she tries to tell what she knows and how she feels about life. For Wenji, art is a very personal experience and when she paints she wants to be honest with herself.

Throughout the last ten years, she has successfully introduced her art to different communities and Wenji`s paintings have been acquired by many private collectors from Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Argentina and Sweden.
